The fire began at approximately 2:15 PM on June 24, 2007 near Seneca Pond.
It was a wind-driven wildfire in El Dorado County, California. Near South Lake Tahoe.
254 houses burned and 67 commercial structures destroyed. The fire burned 3,100 acres
Investigators determined the source was an abandoned campfire near Angora Creek just south of Lake Tahoe. The fire was ferocious, savage and aggressive due to 35 MPH winds and was moving extremely fast down the mountain towards the neighborhoods west of South Lake Tahoe.
“It was basically a firestorm, it was basically a war zone,” some people had only 5 minutes to evacuate their homes.
2,180 firefighters battled the blaze.
